As a self-proclaimed mixologist, I can’t help seeing ingredients and imagining how I can incorporate them into a new mocktail. So when the opportunity came along for me to collaborate with the lovely ladies of Vela Scarves to create a signature mocktail, I couldn’t turn it down. Based in Los Angeles, California, Vela was holding an event to celebrate the release of their Threads Collection and wanted to serve a mocktail fit for a “Vela Girl”. Marwa Atik, of Vela Scarves, described the Vela Girl as confident, outgoing, and adventurous, and we made sure to develop a mocktail that she’d love. Mixing sweet and tart fruit flavors, complimented by a spicy kick, this Sweet & Spicy Mango Sangria was a refreshing mocktail fit for a day full of fashion, photos, and fun.
This sangria can be mixed and made ahead of time, making it perfect for when you have a crowd over. The spicy/salty kick is added by rimming the glasses with lime juice and Tajin, a seasoning mix that combines chili, salt, and lime. Spicy mango from Mexican fruit carts are one my favorite indulgences, so it was only due time until I was going to incorporate Tajin spice into one of my mocktail recipes. You can find it at most Latin supermarkets or even online. You can use lemonade, limeade or a combination of both! This drink is best served over lots of ice in a tumbler style glass, preferably on a hot, sunny day. Enjoy!
