My First Supper Club Dinner

DSC_0243After spending some needed time over the holidays with my family, I planned and prepared my first Supper Club Dinner. After being inspired by the movement of Underground Restaurants/Supper Clubs I’ve seen taking place all the way from Latin America to New York to San Francisco, I was determined to start my own. The movement of underground restaurants was started to provide equally (or more) delicious food you would have in a restaurant, but within the intimate setting you would experience at a dinner party in someone’s home. For the first Huda Supper Club, I decided to serve a Throwback to Summer menu, inspired by BBQs and picnics. With 12 guests surrounding a long dining table, simply adorned with candles and flowers, the night was filled with delectable plates and lots of laughter and conversation.

As I was serving up courses, everyone introduced themselves and conversation varied from stories of food and favorite recipes to the first album (or cassette in my case) that we bought. But the award for the story of the night definitely goes to the tale of one guest who attended a Hip-Hop and R&B concert with an amazing line-up of stars…with his mother. But that’s all I can share, because I’ve already broken the first rule of supper club a few times within this blog post. You’ll just have to come to the next one to see what it’s all about!

Below are some of my favorite shots from the night. And since I know you’re dying to know, Puff Daddy and Mase “Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down” was the first cassette I bought. Best $3.99 I ever spent at Walgreens.
